Our Philosophy
Hollis Preschool offers programs designed for families who want a part-time first school experience in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment. The goal of our preschool is to give children learning experiences that are meaningful to them at developmentally appropriate levels. At the heart of our philosophy is the need to foster the social, emotional, and physical growth of your child.
Our play-based program is centered on the premise that children learn best by doing. Children are guided and directed by the teacher through both structured activities and self-directed play. This allows the children to develop skills they need to participate in a group, as well as ample opportunity to explore and experiment independently with the wide range of materials set out each day. Using the guidelines established by the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC), teachers develop curriculum around various learning themes. Within a theme, activities are planned to help children develop skills in all areas: social and emotional, language, science, math, imagination, art, music, and gross and fine motor. The classroom atmosphere is one of cooperation and mutual respect in which our children can play, learn, and thrive.
