First Day of School, Fall 2020

Welcome from your Hollis Preschool Director

Bridget Roy

Director, Hollis Preschool

Dear Families,

Two weeks until the start of the new school year! In years past, we have organized a parent orientation which took place on the first day of school. This year, we are providing all of the detailed information in advance in order to allow families plenty of time to absorb the information and reach out with questions.  Please take the time to read the following important policies and procedures:

Drop-Off and Pick-up Information

  • All families are required to utilize the Drop-off and Pick-up Carpool lanes.
  • Parents will be required to wear masks during Drop-off and Pick-up.
  • Lead teachers will be retrieving your child(ren) from the car.  Before the child(ren) are retrieved from their carseat, teachers will ask parents a few health related questions and take a touchless temperature.
  • Each class will have an assigned carpool lane and window for both Drop-off and Pick-up.  A carpool map and class specific details are below.
  • Families with siblings attending different classes will need to enter the Drop-off and Pick-up lines twice; once in the first child’s assigned lane and once in the second child’s lane.  This is necessary to ensure children are only interacting with their individual cohorts.
  • If you miss your assigned time frame, parents must wait until after all regularly scheduled Drop-off and Pick-up windows are finished.  Then, please call the preschool (465-3096) for a staff member to meet your child at your vehicle.
  • Families arriving early for their assigned window, please do not enter your lane; other parents in the previous class window may still be in line.  Please park until your student’s teacher is standing at your location.

Snack / Lunch time

New for the 2020/2021 school year, Hollis Preschool will ask families to provide snacks and lunches on a daily basis for their own child.  All morning classes take a mid-morning break for snack time, when the children sit around the table in small groups to enjoy a healthy snack.  The afternoon classes will enjoy a healthy lunch and social time with their peers.

A few notes about snack/lunch time:

  • Please send your child in each day with a reusable water bottle, filled with water, and labeled with their name on it.
  • Snacks and lunches should be packed in a lunch box labeled with your child(ren)’s full name.
  • Celebrations (including birthdays) will not include communal food.
  • Hollis Preschool is a NUT-FREE environment.

Please refer to the Snack/Lunch Time pdf to see our policies and suggested healthy snack ideas.

Sick Child Policy

Upon arrival, all children will be required to have their temperatures checked and parents will be asked a few brief health screening questions.  If your child is showing any signs of illness prior to coming to school, please refrain from bringing them.  Additionally, children need to be fever/symptom free (<100.4) for at least 48 hours without a fever reducer before returning to class. Should they fall ill during the school day, your child(ren) will  immediately be isolated and the family will be contacted to pick-up their child.

In the current COVID-19 environment, we encourage parents to be overly cautious with any illness. Please contact the school if your child is sick and will not be able to attend.

Please refer to our Parent Handbook for our full Sick Child Policy details.

School Supplies

All families will be asked to provide their own school supplies.  School supplies may include items such as crayons, markers, glue, legos, etc.  Your student’s teacher will provide the list of requested items this week (if they haven’t already!).  These supplies will remain separated in your child’s personal plastic bin so the items are not shared among the students.  While it cannot be avoided in every instance, Hollis Preschool is making every effort to reduce communal items.

If you have not already purchased a tote bag, please be sure to provide your child with a tote bag that is clearly labeled with their name.  Tote bags will be used to send home class projects and important information from the teacher/preschool.

Important Student Forms

All of the forms below should be completed and submitted to admin@hollispreschool.com by September 1st.

Additionally, if you have not already sent in your child(ren)’s updated health and immunization records, please send them in as soon as possible so that we may update our records.  Due to licensing requirements, if we do not have a current record on file, your student will not be able to attend until they are provided.

Parent Handbook

Hollis Preschool’s full details of all policies and procedures, including those above, are documented in our Parent Handbook. The handbook is available at all times on our website on the Helpful Links and Useful Forms page.  We strongly encourage all families to familiarize themselves with the handbook.

This year is unlike any other and we value each member of our Hollis Preschool Community.  There is a significant amount of information for families to absorb and process.  We feel the key to a successful year is transparency and open communication between parents, staff and the Board of Directors.  Please do not hesitate to contact us directly either via phone or admin@hollispreschool.com with any questions, concerns or general feedback.

We are looking forward to welcoming your children and a fun year ahead!

Kind regards,
Bridget Roy and the Board of Directors
